Review: Son of Rambow

April 30, 2008

Official posterAt its heart, Garth Jennings’ comedy, Son of Rambo, is simply a wistful and nostalgic film about growing up in the 1980s, ignoring the darker aspects of decade entirely.

It’s central protagonist, Will Proud foot (Bill Milner), is a lonely young boy who’s strict religious upbringing at home with his mother, played by Jessica Stevenson, prevents him from even watching TV.

He spends most of his time lost in his own imagination, drawing cartoons, sometimes on the walls of a toilet cubicle, as he struggles to deal with his father’s death.

Water’s Bacon Saved

April 30, 2008

THE TATTERED remains of the giant inflatable pig, which floated away during a Roger Waters concert, have been found in California.

The pig drifted away during Sunday’s gig at the Coachella music festival while the former Pink Floyd star exclaimed “that’s my pig” as it began to float off.

The political porker had the image of a ticketed ballot box for US presidential candidate, Barack Obama on its belly and showed slogans which said ‘fear builds walls’ and ‘don’t be led to slaughter’.

Measuring the width of two buses it also carried a cartoon of Uncle Sam holding two meat cleavers and was tethered to the ground with ropes.

However the pig made a break for freedom as Waters rather fittingly, played the Pink Floyd song Pig on the Wing.

Coachella spokeswoman Marcee Rondan, said: “It wasn’t really supposed to happen that way.”

A reward of $10,000 and four life tickets to the Coachella festival were offered to anyone who managed to retrieve the flying pig.

The pig finally came down in California and was retrieved in pieces on the driveways of two families who have agreed to share the reward.

Marijuana machine set for launch in the US

April 29, 2008

A VENDING machine that will distribute marijuana is due to start operating in America.

The specially designed machine can only be used by people who have been prescribed the drug for health purposes.

A prescription, fingerprints and a photograph will have to be taken before use of the machine will be permitted.

Shockingly enough, eleven states in the US legally prescribe marijuana for pain relief but the idea of convenient drugs still remains a shock in most parts.

They’ll be greeted by a security guard right there. They’ll slide the card in and they’ll fingerprint in to verify that it’s them,” said Vince Mehdizadeh, owner of the Herbal Nutrition Centre in Los Angeles. Read the rest of this entry »

Ronaldo caught in transvestite sex scandal

April 29, 2008

SUPERSTAR footballer Ronaldo discovered a different set of balls last night after he picked up three cross-dressing prostitutes.

The Brazilian left his girlfriend back to her home in Rio de Janerio and went on to pick up the three prostitutes bringing them to a motel.

After he discovered the ‘ladies’ were in fact men, he alleged the transvestites were trying to extort money from him.

“Ronaldo admits the facts. He said he just wanted to amuse himself, that’s not a crime. To pay to have sexual relations isn’t illegal.

“There’s a strong chance that Ronaldo has been the victim of extortion,” said Rio police superintendent Carlos Augusto Nogueira.

Ronaldo is reported to have said he did not use drugs, as stated previously by the transvetite prostitute and continues to reiterate he is a victim of extortion.

Have you seen the dead man?

April 29, 2008

By Stephanie Mc Guckin

A philosopher once said: “In death, we become heroes.” As any film fan will know, death features in almost all the great celluloid classics. Whether as whimpers when Bambi’s mother is shot, or tears of joy as Rambo makes the bad guys explode, death evokes an emotional response in all of us. And so, here lies a short salutation to the Grim Reaper with a selection of those good, bad and just plain ugly films which make us enjoy life by watching death.
