NORTHERN Ireland Secretary of State Shaun Woodward has postponed council elections in the Province for a further two years, after a request by the Stormont Executive.
Mr Woodward agreed with deferring city and local council elections to assist the planned merger of the 26 authorities into 11.
Elections were due in 2009, but this postponement will allow the large reorganisation process, involved in the restructure, to go ahead first.

DAVID Beckham has told US chat show host Ellen Degeneres that he and wife Victoria are trying to conceive baby number four.
LA Galaxy player Becks told the american TV host that since Spice Girl Victoria ended touring they have turned their attentions to providing their three children with new baby sister or brother.
David, 32, also told Ellen that he and Victoria often walk around their home in the nude.

A COUNTY Antrim man has been charged with the murder of pensioner Elizabeth Smyth, 20 years ago in Belfast.
William James Stevenson, 43, of Coast Road, Ballygally denies the charge.
Mr Stevenson’s lawyer said the case depended on DNA evidence and said he would seek reports into the findings.
The court heard how Elizabeth Smyth had been found beaten to death in her flat in Finaghy in October 1988.
Mr Stevenson has been released on bail.

Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes has been handed the maximum sentence by a federal judge after being found guilty of failing to file tax returns.
The star of the Blade vampire trilogy and Boiling Point will now serve three years in prison. During the trial, the prosecution told the court Snipes should be made an example of because of his fame.
