Review: Son of Rambow

April 30, 2008

Official posterAt its heart, Garth Jennings’ comedy, Son of Rambo, is simply a wistful and nostalgic film about growing up in the 1980s, ignoring the darker aspects of decade entirely.

It’s central protagonist, Will Proud foot (Bill Milner), is a lonely young boy who’s strict religious upbringing at home with his mother, played by Jessica Stevenson, prevents him from even watching TV.

He spends most of his time lost in his own imagination, drawing cartoons, sometimes on the walls of a toilet cubicle, as he struggles to deal with his father’s death.

Water’s Bacon Saved

April 30, 2008

THE TATTERED remains of the giant inflatable pig, which floated away during a Roger Waters concert, have been found in California.

The pig drifted away during Sunday’s gig at the Coachella music festival while the former Pink Floyd star exclaimed “that’s my pig” as it began to float off.

The political porker had the image of a ticketed ballot box for US presidential candidate, Barack Obama on its belly and showed slogans which said ‘fear builds walls’ and ‘don’t be led to slaughter’.

Measuring the width of two buses it also carried a cartoon of Uncle Sam holding two meat cleavers and was tethered to the ground with ropes.

However the pig made a break for freedom as Waters rather fittingly, played the Pink Floyd song Pig on the Wing.

Coachella spokeswoman Marcee Rondan, said: “It wasn’t really supposed to happen that way.”

A reward of $10,000 and four life tickets to the Coachella festival were offered to anyone who managed to retrieve the flying pig.

The pig finally came down in California and was retrieved in pieces on the driveways of two families who have agreed to share the reward.
